Doc-To-Help now generates XHTML versions of all HTML based outputs (NetHelp, HTML Help, Help 2.0, and JavaHelp).

Collapsible Sections

Doc-To-Help has drop-down text, but it is for a single drop-down instance. Sometimes, users want to subdivide an entire topic into collapsible sections. This new feature allows users to define collapsible sections by using a special style. Doc-To-Help will automatically generate collapsible/expandable sections complete with the "+" and "-" icons.

Highlights:

  • Very quick and easy way to organize content
  • No need to know special code, just use styles
  • Inserts expand and collapse buttons for you
Insert Flash Movie in Word

Doc-To-Help will now insert a Flash movie into your project. All you have to do is specify basic settings and Doc-To-Help will embed the movie and automatically apply conditions that exclude them from printed manuals and other outputs that do not support Flash.

Sandcastle Plug-in Enhancements
 

Doc-To-Help is the first Help Authoring tool to integrate with Microsoft Sandcastle to automatically generate .NET reference documentation and combine it with narrative Help content. This release extends the functionality of the Sandcastle Plug-in by giving authors more power to connect narrative and reference content.

Enhancements include:

  • Support for the October CTP
  • Enhanced code block display
  • Support for D2HML, so you can add hotpots to Sandcastle content
XML Transforms
  Advanced users can now add any feature they want to their topics through XML transforms. Doc-To-Help supports the addition of these transforms through XSLT and .NET. Users leverage this technology to create specialized features unique to their situation.

Note that the Collapsible Sections feature is an example of this technology.

Variables allow you to manage content in one place for reuse across your project. You can use Text Variables for any amount of unformatted text or Rich Content Variables for blocks of formatted content.

Examples of Text Variables include:

  • Copyright notices

Examples of Rich Content Variables include:

  • Tables
  • Images or other media
  • Formatted company names (i.e., ComponentOne)

Microsoft Sandcastle Plug-in

Microsoft's Sandcastle utility automatically creates MSDN formatted reference documentation from .NET source code and XML comment files. Doc-To-Help integrates Sandcastle's XML output into your projects, automatically creating topics, index, TOC, and other Help elements. With this information added to your project, you can edit add your own topics, and easily link to namespaces.

Breadcrumb Navigation Tracking in HTML-Based Outputs

Breadcrumbs are a popular way to help end-users keep track of their location in a Help file. Doc-To-Help's HTML-based outputs (NetHelp, HTML-Help, HTML 2.0) now include this navigational element. Additionally, Doc-To-Help's breadcrumbs can be removed and are fully customizable.

Generate PDF Button in Microsoft Word

Doc-To-Help produces printed manuals in .PDF and/or Word format. With Doc-To-Help 2007 v1, you have the choice to either generate the .PDF directly from Doc-To-Help or from a generated Word manual. This gives you the opportunity to format your manual before you generate the .PDF.

JavaScript NetHelp Search Option for "No Install" Searching
