Content Management Should Be Easy
Dan Beall, Product Manager
I just returned from the LavaCon Conference in Austin, where content management was the prevailing topic. Many industry leaders were present, and discussed how they approached content management. What was most interesting is that content management doesn't always have to involve a cumbersome process or a complex system.

Content management is merely a set of procedures that are used to manage workflow, content reuse, and efficient publishing. Many organizations practice efficient content management with the tools they already have. It just takes an efficient process that everybody will want to follow. Many of our users, for example, are finding that Doc-To-Help's single-sourcing features combined with SharePoint give them an efficient, low-cost system that satisfies their needs. Conditional content, variables, conditional builds, and custom themes are among the technologies that help with content reuse and single sourcing, while SharePoint provides a great collaboration platform.
This issue features two articles that illustrate some of these concepts. Listen to the podcast above to learn how Agilysis uses SharePoint for both content collaboration and publishing, and read the article below to learn about Doc-To-Help's variables. |

In this article, we'll take a closer look at Text Variables; for example, how to create and insert them, as well as how to reuse them by importing variables from other projects. Q: I'd like to insert MP4 movies into my Doc-To-Help project, but "Flash Movie" button doesn't allow me to choose this file type. Can I still use my movies?
|
A: Yes, you can. Dan explains how in the blog post, "Adding MP4 Movies to Your Doc-To-Help Projects". This post also provides some insight into how easy it is to insert any HTML code into a Doc-To-Help project.
