Did You Know You Can Re-use Project Settings?
To help you save time and make your project consistent, Doc-To-Help allows you to export and import project settings. These settings include
everything related to a project such as style settings, conditional tags, window sizes, and even content variables. If you have a project you
like, simply import its settings when prompted in the New Project Wizard or use the tools item in the Doc-To-Help Application menu. You can also
export a project's settings to an XML file and import it to other projects when you are ready.

Years Pass, but Technical Communicator's Primary Needs Stay the Same
Gustavo Eydelsteyn, Co-founder
The field of technical communication has officially existed for over 50 years if you count by the number of Society for Technical
Communication's annual conferences. During that time, many technical trends have come and gone. I am sure the buzz was deafening when
the first bound manual came with a punch card system, and I recall what a revolution word processing sparked. |
|
Now we are obsessed with concepts such as XML, content management, and videos. While these technologies remain very important
in the world of technical communication, the Doc-To-Help team found out from interacting with STC attendees in Atlanta last week
that their basic needs remain the same.
Technical communicators need a way to create documentation in the formats most readable for their users and they need to accomplish
this task as efficiently as possible. We were happy to tell them that is what Doc-To-Help has focused on since 1991 and that is what
we still focus on today. As you learn more about Doc-To-Help, take note that it gives you the tools you need to get your job done
as quickly as possible. From automating virtually everything to giving you great online Help and press-ready print output, you will
find that Doc-To-Help is the most efficient tool in your arsenal.

Sharing Content Across Multiple Doc-To-Help Projects
Dan Beall, Product Manager
Content reuse is vital to the efficient and consistent documentation process. It allows you to quickly create documentation with commonly used
information and ensures consistency and accuracy. |
|
Doc-To-Help users know that they can use content variables to manage blocks of content within any project, but many don't realize that
Doc-To-Help's open nature makes it easy to share content across many projects. All you need to do is tell Doc-To-Help where your stored
content is and access those files when you need them.
This article will cover how to set up a shared content repository and demonstrate how you can share documents and topics.
