Social Service: Get on Board
Dan Beall, Product Manager
We can all agree that social media is an effective way to quickly spread information. For this reason, Twitter and Facebook are quickly becoming popular verbs (just like Google). What if vendors, such as us, could use social media to provide a service? Well, we have done just that. |
If you follow Doc-To-Help on Twitter or are a fan on Facebook, you may have noticed a stream of Doc-To-Help tips. These short tips highlight helpful facts, tricks, and tasks in Doc-To-Help. Search for #D2HTip on Twitter to see for yourself. This is our first step to truly using social media to provide service. In the spirit of social media, I would like to invite you to post more ideas on Twitter or Facebook. Let us know how we can best help you. |

Technical Communication Departments = Higher Profits!
Nicky Bleiel, Senior Information Developer
A corporation's bottom line (or net income) is equal to its "total revenue - costs". Typically, the technical communication department is in the "cost" bucket - the number that shrinks the bottom line on spreadsheets. In this article, Nicky Bleiel discusses how technical communication departments actually increase the bottom line by increasing sales, streamlining processes, and reducing costs in a variety of ways. Ask the Expert
Q: In my online Help and manuals, I'd like to link to specific location within a topic; is there a way to do that?
|
A:There are two different ways to do this, depending on your needs. If you want to link to a word, select the text and insert a bookmark at that spot. You can then create a link from another topic to that bookmark. When you create the link, choose the Link Type of "Bookmark in Document" in the Link dialog box and you will see the list of bookmarks you can link to. (By the way, you can also create links to graphics using bookmarks. Just select the graphic and insert a bookmark first.)
|
|
If you want to link to a subheading within a topic, you should apply the MidTopic style to that subheading. After you build the project, you can link to that subheading using the Link dialog box. Choose the Link Type of "Topic in Document" or "Topic Title". This works in any editor. Follow us on Twitter for more tips and tricks.
If you have any additional questions on this subject or any others, please email me. Thanks, Nicky
