Use Conditions to Create Internal and Public Versions |
 |
Many people have content that mixes information that is approved for public consumption as well as sensitive or not yet approved content.
Doc-To-Help's conditional attributes make it easy to manage all this content in one place and publish deliverables that only contain the
approved information.
|
When you have information that is only for internal viewing, simply apply the "Build:internal" attribute found in
any of the condition menus. You can apply this attribute to specific text, topics, or entire documents. When you have tagged all your
content, create a new target that excludes anything tagged with the "Build:internal" attribute. Since Doc-To-Help will exclude all
tagged content, you can use your new target for public distribution.
See the
Doc-To-Help documentation for more information about using conditions and creating custom targets.

Don't Forget About Single Sourcing
Gustavo Eydelsteyn, Co-founder
Greetings, Happy New Year, and welcome to the first Doc-To-Help Tech Connection of 2009. Over the past few months, you have
probably heard us talk about our new editor, our support for Microsoft Word, and our publishing technology. Doc-To-Help is
an all-in-one tool, so you should know about our project management features, especially single-sourcing. |
|
Doc-To-Help's primary purpose is to allow you to write, store, and manage content and then publish different outputs --
each with appropriate information -- without the need for editing or reformatting. For example, you can write in Word,
HTML, or XML and produce a printed manual with cross references and an online Help file with live links just
by clicking a button. Similarly, you can create different versions of the same output by mapping content, and again just
clicking a button. This month's Tech Connection discusses some of our single-sourcing features, so be sure to check
out the articles and contact us if you have any questions.

Use Content Variables to Manage Reusable Content
Dan Beall, Product Manager
In Doc-To-Help, a variable is defined as a block of reusable content that is created and stored in one place for
insertion across an entire project. Variables provide authors with an excellent way to manage frequently used
content such as product names, company names, descriptions, graphics, and even entire topics.
|
|
When a product name or a screen shot changes, for instance, that change only needs to be made in one place.
Doc-To-Help will automatically make the change across the entire project. This article will discuss content
variables in more detail and show you how to use them with easy-to-follow instructions and videos.
